I created this hand-drawn map painted with watercolours and digital colours. This map reflects how much I love this region of New Zealand. For the last 5 years, we have been travelling on the 1st of January from Mount Maunganui to some spot on the Coromandel Peninsula to do the 'Coromandel Loop markets marathon' — that means 5 or 6 markets in a row, in different towns. It's the most important week of the year for our business. We prepare the stock for weeks, thinking about the logistics for the busiest week of the year: Coromandel town, Pauanui, Cooks Beach, Hahei, Whangamata, and maybe Waihi — depending on the year and the calendar. Every year is a new adventure, driving through the green mountains, walking on the sand, and going to the markets to watch the sunrise early in the morning. I hope you like this map as much as I do! :-)
